All you need to be one of the group is an interest in poetry and an enjoyment in reading it aloud.

Each meeting will be based on either one person’s choice of poet or each member bringing one or two poems on a chosen subject, for example Winter. The aim of the meeting is for each to share their pleasure in a full range of poetry, from ancient to modern. Usually it is one member’s choice of poet or subject for the group meeting. Sometimes a topic might call for everyone to contribute, on a topic such as a season, or humour.

Some of the recent choices have been Nonsense Verse which led on to Victorian Parlour Poetry another time. Both of these had everyone smiling with pleasure. Poetry of Anglo Caribbean poets such as Grace Nichols and Benjamin Zephaniah has made its appearance, to add to the range and variety of members’ choices.

The pleasure in reading the selected poems is enhanced in the discussion that ensues.
